Montreal - Day 2

Our first full day in Montreal was characterised by:

Walking
and ....

Using the Metro (Hi Sam!) ....

We headed out first to McGill University; a very picturesque and old University with many many lovely stone buildings;

Here is one ... (a hospital?)

oops, and again. I have no idea how to delete these! (sorry)

After walking up through the Uni, we climbed Parc Mont - Royal, to the top! (it took some of us longer than others; hey, it's surely the journey as much as the destination!)

to view the commemorative plaque of where Cartier landed and founded Montreal in 1535
(this claims he was the discoverer of Canada, but then talks about the Indians who guided him up the mountain ....)
[OK. Nick did NOT do this. They were just practising.]

and see the city of Montreal below us!
Hi Jade! Hi Montreal!

Liana, Hatley, Katrina, Jade and Rosie at the top.
(that's lovely Rosie)

The building - a big hall - that acts as the observatory.
Is this tongue thing catching???
Christy and Thea at the top, enjoying the beautiful Montreal day!
Amber and Monique - they are always like this, especially at the beach.

We walked around the Parc beyond the observatory;

The Cross of Montreal, in the Parc.
We then meandered through the old cemetary adjacent to the Parc.
Crazy Canuck #3.
While sitting gathering our thoughts at the entrance to the Cemetary this guy pulls up in his sporty black Mercedes.
He was super inappropriate but HILARIOUS because of it.
The students described him as "random".
He described himself as "the best looking guy in [beeping] Montreal".
The jury is still out on that one.
The team in front of a Montrealan (??) Stop sign.
AWESOME!

After the Parc / Cemetary we travelled into Little Italy.
So, obviously, Crepes were called for.
YUM!

Look Mum; fruit!
After Little Italy, we took the Metro to Mont Royal - to look around the trendy areas between Rue St-Laurent and Rus St-Denis
Mr O'Reilly just about freaked out over this sandwich shop on Rue St Laurent. It's called Schwartz's and is really famous. Look at the line going out the door!

Mackenzie and Liana in the Metro waiting for a train.

Some of Montreal's quirky architecture. Note the "Canadien's" (Montreal Hockey team) flag

Montreal everyone!

Cleary a Maths Teachers favourite place to eat (after Schwartz's?)

More random neighbourhood streets in Montreal!
So, in the evening we had a choice. Some wanted to chill out and get an early night, some went to and English movie... and Jade, Jordan, Emma, Liana, Hatley and Mackenzie tried this restaurant
Noir = Black

It is a dark dining experience! You eat completely in the dark, and your wait staff are blind! They came back absolutely raving about it.
I'm sure they retained all their table manners despite no one being able to see them ....
and 5% of their bill goes to a charity for the visually impaired.
